Fourteen months after its facilities were vandalised during the #EndSARS protests, the Cross River Basin Development Authority (CRBDA) has allocated N200 million to construct a fish pond.

CRBDA spokesman, Jackson John, told journalists that a lot would be achieved with the 10,000 fingerlings-capacity fish pond.

Mr John explained that the river basin had already concluded plans for the pond before it was vandalised.

He added that after the facility’s destruction, CRBDA carried out major renovations and put up structures better than those vandalised.

“During the #EndSARS protest, our greenhouses were destroyed, and all chicks looted, but as we speak now, we have restocked them,” disclosed the CRBDA spokesman. “Before the protest, we had about 5,000 chicks, but now we have the capacity for about 10,000 broilers and layers.”

The CRBDA said it was working on a drip irrigation system, “but the protest disrupted the entire activity, and most facilities were vandalised.”

“We are bringing them back soon,” stated Mr John.

Inyang Umana, CRBDA’s senior commercial officer, further stated that what the organisation had was a mini Shongai Integrated Farm.

“Wastes leaves from our farm are feed to the Pigs after harvest. We have just two hectares, and we have poultry, fish ponds, and pigsty, mushroom garden, and greenhouses for the crops,” said Mr Umana. “You don’t need all the land in the world to achieve this.”
