Host country Cameroon on Sunday defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in the opening group stage game of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Indomitable Lions gave a commanding show, controlling 60 per cent of ball possession and creating more chances than their opponent during the game.

Gustavo Sangare opened scoring in the tournament, giving Burkina Faso an early lead 24 minutes into the game with a brilliant volley.

A bad challenge on a Cameroonian forward in the box drew a penalty against Burkina Faso.

Vincent Aboubakar netted an equaliser for Cameroon from the spot in the 40th minute.

Again, Aboubakar made it two for the Indomitable Lions in the first half added time.

The second half ended with both side not scoring.

Burkina Faso gave the host country a good fight but are now on the bottom of Group A table, while Cameroon maintain the top spot in the group with three points and two goals.

Other countries in Group A are, Ethiopia and Cape Verde later. The outcome of their game will determine if Cameroon will stay first in the group.
