UNICEF urges Adamawa teachers to shun early morning farming
Joel Jutum, UNICEF education consultant in Adamawa, has appealed to teachers in Adamawa to stay away from farms in the morning, promising them payment of monthly incentive as motivation.
“Please you should not be among those who go to farm or market in the morning before coming to school,” Mr Jutum said during the supervision of the 10-day training for 750 teachers for the implementation of the programme in Fufore and Guyuk Local Government Areas (LGAs).
He added that it is the new method of teaching which is known as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) where teachers will receive monthly incentives as motivation.
Noting that payment will commence soon, he pleaded with the participants to pay more attention to the training for effective implementation of the programme.
Mr Jutum said at the end of the training, each participant is expected to conduct an assessment of 50 students from Primary 4-5-6 for the teaching of numeracy and literacy from familiar to the official language.
According to him, if implemented successfully, the children will be able to read a sentence within three months.
He appealed to them to be committed to duty and train the students to become responsible citizens.
“Implementation of TaRL programme is for two hours, one hour for numeracy and one hour for literacy and it is between 8:00 a.m to 10:00 a.m.,” he said.
In her remarks, Aisha Bashir, Member 1, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), urged the participants to give maximum support and cooperate with facilitators for successful training.
She advised the participants to remain in schools and give their best for the children to have quality education and to succeed in their future endeavours.
