Football enthusiasts in Nigeria have urged the Super Eagles not to underrate Sudan and Guinea Bissau in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) group D matches.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Sudan national team on Saturday and face Guinea Bissau later.

Some football enthusiasts on Friday in Enugu said that the team had done well but needed to finish well in the group stage.

Tony Ugwu, the chairman Enugu State Football Association (ENSFA) said the team proved a lot of football lovers wrong against pharoahs of Egypt.

According to him, Super Eagles has done well but they need to raise the bar against Sudan and Guinea Bissau in the group matches.

“We have youthful players who need to go higher in the world of football and this tournament offered them the opportunity to proof themselves.

“Eagles have to improve on their game against Sudan so that they will go far in the tournament,” he said.

The former Director in Enugu State Ministry of Youths and Sports, John Eli, said he was satisfied with the eagles performance in the tournament.

Eli warned that the tournament just begun and that Super Eagles should not be carried away by their performance at the first match.

“Sudan and Guinea Bissau may be regarded as underdogs and they have nothing to lose in the match against Nigeria.

“For me, Eagles should play as a team with more determination compared to the one we saw against the Pharoahs.

“Football is full of surprises and only 90 minutes determine the winner, so eagles need to be consistent in each of their matches in the ongoing tournament,” Eli said.

Rangers International FC Media Officer, Norbert Okolie, warned that the match against Sudan and Guinea Bissau would be a tricky one as they were being regarded as under dogs.

Okolie called on the players to avoid complacency in each match and give it maximum concentration.

Coach Lofty Uche of Golden Stars FC Obiagu, said that eagles should brace up for strength against Sudan.

He called on coach Augustine Eguavon to select energetic and experienced players for the match so that eagles would overcome their opponent on Saturday.

“Sudan is not a pushover in football anymore and for them to qualify for the tournament should they can surprise any team in the tournament,”Uche said.

The Super Eagles need a win against Sudan to cement their qualification to the round of 16 after 1-0 win over Pharoahs of Egypt in their first match.
