Senator and former Abia state governor, Orji Kalu, says insecurity would have ruined Nigeria had Muhammadu Buhari not become the country’s president. 

“I will rate Buhari’s administration very highly. If Buhari did not come in maybe we would not have Nigeria by now, the way things were going, Mr Kalu said.

The senator was speaking on Thursday during an interview with Arise TV. 

“Buhari’s administration has done very well even in fighting banditry,” Mr Kalu said, adding, “but we don’t have enough resources to fight these people.” 

He added that “Governors need to stand up and fight the war. I am pleading with them, more of those fights lie with the governors, not with Buhari.” 

Contrary to Mr Kalu’s claim, Nigeria has witnessed increased insecurity since Mr Buhari came on board first as president in 2015 and a reelection in 2019.

In several coordinated attacks, bandits, unknown gunmen and Boko Haram terrorists have continued to kill and kidnap for ransom across the country, while agitations for secession continue to threatened Nigeria’s unity. 

Speaking on the spate of killings and kidnappings in the country in October 2021, Femi Adesina, spokesperson for Mr Buhari, admitted that “life has descended into the Hobbesian state of nature; nasty, brutish and short” in the last 18 months under his principal’s watch. 

Similarly, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, had in November 2020, said “People think North is safe but that assumption is not true.

In fact, it’s the worst place to be in this country because bandits go around in the villages, households and markets with their AK 47 and nobody is challenging them.”
