Government, bandits in talks to free abducted Katsina students: Garba Shehu
Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu on Monday said the government has establised contacts with kidnappers to secure the release of students of Government Boys Science Secondary Kankara, Katsina.
Governor Aminu Masari confirmed that 300 students were abducted by armed gunmen over the weekend. But other credible reports said at least 600 students were abducted by the bandits. Police and military forces said they had launched a joint operation to free the abducted boys.
Mr. Shehu in a statement on Monday said Mr. Masari visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday to brief him on efforts to rescue the abducted students.
The presidential spokesman cited Mr. Masari as saying the kidnappers had made contact and discussions were already on pertaining to safety and return to their homes.
Peoples Gazette reported how Mr. Buhari ignored calls to visit the scene of the crime but visited his cattle ranch in Katsina.
