The federal government says nationwide sensitisation campaigns on the adoption and expansion of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is underway.

Dayo Adeshina, special assistant to the vice president on LPG, told journalists on Wednesday in Bauchi that the objective of the exercise was to increase and expand access to cooking gas among Nigerians.

He added that the first phase of the exercise was expected to begin in 12 of the 36 states.

Mr Adeshina explained that the 12 pilot states were Bauchi, Lagos, Ebonyi, Gombe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Enugu. Others are Bayelsa, Delta, FCT Abuja, Ogun, and Niger states, stressing that the programme would commence soon.

All 36 states are expected to be covered within three years at the ratio of twelve states per year, noting that investors and marketers would be engaged for effective implementation.

He said conventional, social media, traditional rulers, and community leaders would be fully engaged in the campaign to achieve wider and more effective coverage.
