Plateau LG chairman charges police, SSS, NSCDC to end kidnapping
The Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau, Gideon Dandereng, has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies in the state to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities.
Mr Dandereng made the call in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Shamaki Gyang, on Thursday in Jos.
According to the statement, the chairman met with heads of five Divisional Police outposts in Jos South, State Security Service (SSS) and the Civil Defence, where he decried the alarming rate of kidnapping in the area and the state.
He described the recent abduction of the Vwang District paramount ruler, Da Gyang Balak as unfortunate, adding that the kidnapping could have been averted if all hands were on deck, and advised security agencies to organise sensitisation exercise for citizens on security tips.
He also urged the security agencies to collaborate with non conventional security personnel in gathering intelligence.
The chairman noted that the local government council in conjunction with the Traditional Council and Development Associations has trained 20 non conventional officers in each of the five districts of the locality who would support the conventional agencies in watching the neighbourhoods.
The statement said that security agencies at the meeting expressed concern over complacency and compromise among some of the non conventional personnel who were hiding under the guise of supporting the security to perpetrate crime.
They appealed to the council chairman to assist them with a geo-location gadget that would help in tracking kidnappers and their victims.
