World Cup Qualifier: Falconets fly past Cameroon to qualify for final round

The Falconets of Nigeria thrashed their Cameroonian counterparts 3-0 in Abuja on Saturday to qualify for the final round of the qualification series for the U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held in Costa Rica later this year.
Two goals from midfield Esther Onyenezide and another by Precious Vincent ensured that the Young Lionesses of Cameroon go back home with nothing, on the same day that their senior men’s national team won bronze at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
The game was the first to be played at the newly renovated MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. The last game that was played at the stadium was between the Super Falcons and Senegal in an Africa Women’s Nations Cup qualifying match in April 2016.
The Falconets, who are the most successful women’s U-20 team in Africa, will now wait for the winner of the Senegal-Morocco clash to find out who they will be facing in a two-legged final round qualifier for Costa Rica 2022.
