Abike Dabiri hails Israel Adesanya over UFC victory

CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born champion Israel Adesanya for his victory in a Unified Fighting Championship (UFC) fight on Sunday.
Adesanya on Sunday retained his UFC title in the middleweight category, beating Robert Whittaker in a unanimous decision of 48-47, 48-47, 49-46 at the Toyota Sports Centre, Houston-Texas, USA.
In a statement signed by spokesman for NiDCOM, Gabriel Odu, Ms Dabiri-Erewa said Adesanya’s performance was a true reflection of the resilience, passion, dedication and commitment of Nigerians both at home and in diaspora.
She urged him to sustain the momentum and win more laurels for Nigeria.
Saturday’s fight was Adesanya’s second time defeating Whittaker having knocked him out in 2019 in Melbourne, Australia.
It was Adesanya’s fourth title defence after defeats against Yoel Romero, Paolo Costa and Marvin Vettori, respectively.
