Ogun man sentenced for beating up woman

On Monday, the Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun ordered a 47-year-old man, Emmanuel Benson, to sweep the court premises for one week for assaulting a woman.
Magistrate A.O.Adeyemi, in her ruling, sentenced him without an option of a fine. The magistrate said that the prosecution counsel proved its case beyond reasonable doubts.
The convict, who lives at No. 22 Basiru Adamu St., Plaza road, Ota, was charged with assault.
He had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convict committed the offence on October 30,2021, at about 7:30 p.m., at his residence.
The police officer added that the convict beat up Ms Naomi Zion and dragged her on the floor, causing her injuries on her left hand.
The prosecution also mentioned that the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
