Buju changes name to BNXN; management gives reason

Afro-Fusion artiste Daniel Benson popularly known as BUJU has officially changed his stage name to BNXN.
The Nigerian singer’s management announced this development on Thursday February 17, noting BNXN will be pronounced as “Benson”.
“This is to officially inform the general public that Daniel Benson formerly known with the stage name “Buju” (Beauty Underneath Just Understood) will no longer be referred to as the latter,” a statement signed by Orbbayarn for artist’s management read. “Moving forward, he is to be addressed professionally as “BNXN pronounced simply as Benson. This name change will take effect from the 18th of February 2022.”
Buju also took to his Twitter and Instagram stories to make the announcement.
“It’s no longer ‘Buju’. Call me ‘Benson’ written as ‘BNXN’,” the singer tweeted.
Peoples Gazette was able to speak with BNXN management as to the reason for the name change.
“We had to change his name because of the confusion in the market space between the names Buju and the Jamaican singer Buju Banton,” a crew member said.
On why they chose the name BNXN, he said “We chose the name BNXN because it’s his name Benson and it just signifies that the singer is growing and evolving towards his own person and originality.”
He went on to give the example as to the confusion that happened, in a recent incident, where Buju was on a tour with Jamaican singer Koffee and people mistook the Nigerian singer for Buju Banton, seeing that both Koffee and Buju Banton are Jamaicans.
Going further, he went on to add that as a fast growing global brand that BNXN is, the name Buju makes it harder to trademark and take certain legal procedures, so to avoid legal actions, they had to change the name.
