Russian troops have seized control of the Antonov International Airport just outside of Kyiv in Ukraine.

Reports from CNN reporters in Ukraine confirmed that Antonov, a cargo airport, has been taken control of by Russian forces.

Natasha Bertrand, a CNN reporter, took to Twitter on Thursday.

“Breaking: @mchancecnn with Russian forces at the Antonov airport about 15 miles outside of Kyiv. “These troops you can see over here, they are Russian airborne forces. They have taken this airport,” Ms Bertrand tweeted

The new developments come as Ukraine closed its airspace to all civil flights and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) sending warnings about the bordering areas of Russia and Belarus because of military actions.

Reuters had reported the Ukraine State Air Traffic Services Enterprise’s closure of the country’s airspace and suspension of air traffic services.

Ukrainian police have said Russia has carried out more than 200 attacks since Thursday morning and fighting is going on across almost every part of the country.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine on Thursday, with the first wave of attacks starting with a series of missile attacks against locations near the capital Kyiv where Ukrainian authorities said seven people have been killed and 17 wounded in a missile attack on a military area northeast of the capital of Kyiv.

The attacks also hit the city of Kharkiv, near the Russian border. The fighting has spread across central and eastern Ukraine as Russian forces continue to attack the country.
