The Ukrainian government on Saturday called for crypto donations to prosecute the ongoing invasion by Russia.

In a tweet on Saturday, Ukraine called on sympathisers across the globe to support prosecution of the war against Russia by donating in Bitcoin, Ethereum or USDT.

“Stand with the people of Ukraine. Now accepting cryptocurrency donations. Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT,” Ukraine government said, releasing the country’s official accounts for the cryptos.

President Vladimir Putin-led Russia began invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, with a series of missile strikes on cities and military bases.

Hours after the invasion, Russian forces seized control of the now-decommissioned Chernobyl nuclear power plant and its surrounding exclusion zone as well as the Antonov International airport near Kyiv.

United States President Joe Biden on Friday announced freezing of Russian assets in his country, saying “Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war. And now he and his country will bear the consequences.”

On Friday, UEFA’s Executive Committee moved the final of the 2022 Champions League from St Petersburg to Paris, while Manchester United ended its sponsorship deal with Russian airline Aeroflot amid Russia’s ongoing hostilities against Ukraine.

Members of the British parliament are also proposing to ban Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich from ownership of his club Chelsea FC.
