Authorities in Lagos have confirmed that that the Third Mainland Bridge will be completely shut for Christmas weekend.

The Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, Olukayode Popoola, stated that the Bridge will be closed from midnight of Christmas day, Friday 25 December, and be reopened at midnight on Sunday.

The reason for this closure, he said, is to enable the construction team complete the reconstruction on Saturday. They are expected to finish on Sunday. The project is slated to be seventy percent complete.

Mr. Popoola further explained that the closure is to allow the workers cast concrete on three additional expansion joints on the lane leading to the island.

The Third Mainland bridge has been closed a number of times in the past for reconstruction and maintenance. It had been closed in 2018 and 2019.

This year however, the federal and  state government had announced in July that the bridge would be closed off for a six months rehabilitation project.
