As the crisis between Ukraine and Russia intensifies, the Nigerian embassy in Romania has sent a delegation to receive its citizens at the Ukrainian border.

This is coming amidst reports of Nigerians getting stranded and manhandled at the Polish border.

“The embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bucharest, Romania wishes to inform Nigerian nationals arriving from Ukraine that the public arrangement has been effected by the embassy to receive them at the Romanian entry points,” partly reads the statement.

The statement directed fleeing Nigerians to contact embassy personnel stationed at the country’s four entry points with their valid travel documents. The entry points are Siret in Suceava county, Sighetu MarmaÈ›iei in Maramures county, Isacchea in Tulcea county and Haimeu in Satu Mare county.

“This arrangement is in addition to those already put in place by the Romanian authorities to welcome evacuated/repatriated nationals of every citizen from Ukraine. Affected Nigerian nationals are advised to ensure they arrive at the entry point with travel documents and cooperate with Romanian immigration officers at the border.”

Noting the embassy can be reached through nigerembinro@yahoo.com and info@nigeriaembromania.gov.ng,  the statement urged Nigerians to disregard information not conveyed on the embassy’s official website,(www.nigeriaembromania.gov.ng).

Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister,  Geoffrey Onyeama, on Sunday, said he was in talks with other missions in Ukraine, Romania, Poland, Hungary  and Russia to ensure the safety of Nigerians.

“I am personally coordinating with our missions in Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Romania and Hungary to ensure we get our citizens out of Ukraine and bring back to Nigeria those ready to return, while supporting those who are remaining in Ukraine,” wrote the foreign affairs minister.
