The APC governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has said that he is studying the result of the election and will make his next move known soon.

“I assure you all that I am studying the results along with other party members and will announce my next move soon,” Mr. Ize-Iyamu said on Twitter Sunday night.

The ruling party candidate scored 223,619 votes to be defeated by incumbent Godwin Obaseki, who polled 307,955 votes in the September 19 exercise.

INEC said 557,443 people voted in the election contested by 14 candidates from different political parties. Mr. Obaseki won in 13 of the 18 local government areas in the state.

Mr. Ize-Iyamu, a pentecostal preacher, was seen as the candidate to beat prior to the campaign, but political analysts said his association with controversial political figure, Adams Oshiomhole, cost him the election.
It was the pastor’s second attempt to run Edo State, having run against Mr. Obaseki as a PDP candidate in 2016.
