U.S. Senator calls for Putin’s assassination as war in Ukraine worsens

Amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, United States Senator Lindsey Graham says someone should assassinate President Vladimir Putin.
“The only way this ends is for somebody in Russia to take this guy out,” Mr Graham tweeted on Thursday.
Mr Graham asked if Russia has citizens like Brutus, one among the killers of Roman ruler Julius Ceasars, or Colonel Stauffenberg, a “German army officer best known for his failed attempt on July 20, 1944 to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the Wolf’s Lair.”
According to Senator Graham, “Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military? You would be doing your country – and the world – a great service.”
Russia embarked on a war with Ukraine last week Thursday, a development that has been globally condemned, with several countries and organisations imposing heavy sanctions on Russia.
The European Union has announced the removal of Russia from the international banking network, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).
The U.S. has also considered freezing the $643 billion in reserves of the Russian central bank amassed by Mr Putin, and freezing assets of Russian oligarchs.
