Man arraigned for failing to pay cooperative’s money

The defendant defaulted in the payment of a N100,000 loan he took from a cooperative society in Abuja.

The police on Thursday arraigned a 29-year-old man, Seth Simon, in Karu, Abuja for allegedly duping Goldmine Cooperative Society, Abuja of N120,0000.

The defendant, who resides at Karu, Abuja is standing trial for criminal breach of trust, cheating by impersonation and criminal misappropriation. 

Mr Simon pleaded not guilty to the charges. 

The Prosecutor, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Rose Godwin of Kurudu Village, Abuja reported the matter at Karu Police Station on January 26.

Mr Osho alleged that the defendant approached the society for a N100,000 loan, with interest of N20,000, to be repaid in four months, which was granted by the society.

He said the society became curious when the defendant could not allegedly meet his repayment plan agreed with the society. 

He said the society visited the address provided by the defendant at Karu Market and found that he allegedly gave false information because the shop he gave as his does not belong to him. 

The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Mr Maiwada adjourned the case until May 3 for hearing.
