Lagos: Apongbon Market on fire; buildings, vehicles razed

Fire has razed buildings, shops and vehicles at Apongbon Market in Lagos.
The fire broke out on Wednesday morning around 2:00 a.m.
Peoples Gazette learnt that the fire had spread to other parts of the market. The fire also razed vehicles parked under the bridge.
The fire also damaged part of the Apongbon bridge, disrupting vehicular movement on the highway.
Residents said emergency responders were battling the fire as inflammable objects stored in the shops aided the spread of the fire.
According to LASEMA on its Twitter page, the emergency responders and other officials were on the ground to curtail and put out the fire.
The agency said vehicular movement from Eko Bridge had been re-routed to Ebute-Ero to link Inner Marina Road.
“Video of the fire incident underneath Apongbon bridge this morning, cause is yet unknown,” @followlastma tweeted. “[7:35AM] Traffic from Eko bridge has been re-routed to Ebute-Ero to link inner marina. Men of fire service and other security agencies are still on ground. Therefore, CMS bridge and Eko bridge inward/outward Apongbon is close to traffic at the moment.”
The director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the fire responders were on the ground to put out the fire completely.
She noted that the officials had curtailed the inferno from spreading to other locations under the bridge.
