American comedian Chris Rock has declined to file charges against actor Will Smith for assaulting him on stage at the just concluded Academy Awards.

In a statement released by the Los Angeles Police Department, Rock has declined to file a report against Smith after the incident.

“LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program. The incident involved one individual slapping another,” the statement read.

“The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report,” the police added.

Rock, while hosting the 2022 Oscars on Sunday night made a G.I Jane quip about Jada Pinkett-Smith, Will’s wife, due to her health related shaved head.

“Jada I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see ya,” he said, in reference to the 1997 movie that starred Demi Moore as a soldier with a shaved head.

The Smiths did not take too insult to the joke and reference, due to Jada’s open battle with alopecia.

Smith, who eventually apologised for his action while receiving the award for ‘Best Actor’, has been openly criticised for his actions.

The ‘lack of control’ over his anger has triggered mixed reviews and reactions from Hollywood, celebs and fans, with some tagging it as ‘Oscar’s ugliest moment’.

A lot of fans believe that the action completely took away the spotlight from his achievement as an actor, after bagging the biggest award of the night.

His action has, however, triggered a wave of mixed reactions, with several Hollywood personalities and music stars weighing into the matter on Twitter.
