Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will miss the rest of the 2021/22 season with a knee injury.

The midfielder limped off in Leicester City’s 2-1 defeat to Stade Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League. He has since undergone corrective surgery but manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he will be out for the rest of the season.

In his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Rodgers said, “Wilfred Ndidi will be out for the season, it’s a shame for us, but he’ll get ready for next season.”

“It’s unfortunate,” added Rodgers. “He’s been a brilliant player for me in my time here. He picked up a nasty injury that has had to have surgery on, and he’ll recover now until June.”

The former Genk midfielder missed this week’s World Cup qualifying playoff games that saw Nigeria fail to qualify for Qatar 2022 after losing to Ghana on away goals.
