NAPTIP rescues 36 Nigerians, 12 Ghanaians from human traffickers

The victims consisted of 36 Nigerians from Anambra, Benue, Edo, Kogi, Osun, Ondo and Rivers, and 12 Ghanaians.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP), Kano Command, on Tuesday said the agency has taken custody of 48 victims of human trafficking.

Abdullahi Babale, the Zonal Coordinator of the command, in an interview in Kano on Tuesday, said the victims were allegedly on their way to Europe.

According to him, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Jigawa Command, in collaboration with Nigerien police in Niger Republic, rescued and handed the victims over to NAPTIP.

He said the victims, who are between the ages of 14 and 30, consisted of 36 Nigerians from Anambra, Benue, Edo, Kogi, Osun, Ondo and Rivers, and 12 Ghanaians.

The zonal coordinator said that preliminary investigations revealed that all the victims, who were undergoing counselling in a shelter at the time of the arrest, were heading to Europe.
