Police foiled kidnap attempts in Kaduna, rescued victims: Official

Police in Kaduna State has foiled two kidnap attempts in Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas of the state.
The police spokesperson in the state, Mohammed Jalige, said the kidnap attempts were foiled on Tuesday and Wednesday, adding that the police rescued four victims.
He said Tuesday’s attempt was recorded at the Buruk area of Ragachikun in Chickun, while Wednesday’s was at the Barakallahu area in Igabi Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Jalige explained that the police received a distress call on Tuesday that bandits had blocked the Buruk-Birnin Gwari Road around Kwanan Ruwa Village in Chikun to kidnap commuters.
“Operatives were immediately mobilised to the area, and upon sighting them, the bandits started shooting sporadically in an effort to whisk away their victims,’’ he stated.
Mr Jalige explained that the operatives engaged the bandits tactically and eventually forced them to retreat into the nearby bush, abandoning their victims, who were rescued unhurt.
“The victims were subsequently taken to the police station from where they were released to their families.
The vehicle in which they were travelling was also handed over to the owner upon proper documentation,’’ he stated.
Mr Jalige added that on Wednesday, police operatives with reinforcement from the Nigerian Army intercepted a group of bandits as they forced their way into the Barakallahu community in Igabi Local Government Area.
He stated that it was the bandits’ usual criminal manner to force themselves into communities to kidnap residents.
