COVID-19: New cases hit 1,664 on Wednesday as Nigeria awaits vaccine consignment

The number of daily coronavirus infection has been on the rise recently affirming reports on the second wave of the pandemic.

Nigeria on Wednesday recorded 1,664 new cases of coronavirus infection, National Center for Disease Control reported. 

The number of cases reported on Wednesday is the highest number of cases recorded in a single day since the first case of coronavirus was reported in late February last year. 

The number of daily coronavirus infection has been on the rise recently affirming reports on the second wave of the pandemic disrupting social economic life across the globe. 

Amongst states, Lagos and Federal Capital Territory  recorded 642 and 407 respectively. Plateau recorded 160, Kaduna 83, Rivers 62, Adamawa 47, Nasarawa 38, Abia 29, Edo 28, Anambra 27, Niger 24, Ogun 24, Imo 15, Oyo 14, Kano 12, Osun 12, Borno 9, Delta 7, Enugu 7, Bauchi 5, Ekiti 5, Sokoto 5, and Jigawa 2.

With the number of cases reported on Wednesday, Nigeria now has a total of 94,369 confirmed cases, while 1324 deaths have been recorded as a result of the pandemic. 

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 on Tuesday said Nigeria is expected to take delivery of 100,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine before the end of the month.

The PTF also said national leaders, health workers and other vulnerable persons will be first to be inoculated against coronavirus.
