Biden describes Capitol besiegers as “domestic terrorists”
President-elect Joe Biden has described Wednesday’s disruptive protest at Capitol as the work of “domestic terrorists and insurrectionists”.
Protesters marched on Capitol, breaking into parts of the building and momentarily forcing a halt in the Congress’ debate to certify Mr. Biden’s electoral college victory.
The incident left one dead with many injured. Over 50 persons were arrested by the police, as the charade attracted global condemnation.
Speaking on the incident on Twitter on Thursday, Mr. Biden said those who disrupted legislative activities at Capitol on Wednesday were domestic terrorists and not protesters.
“What we witnessed yesterday was not dissent — it was disorder,” Mr. Biden said. “They weren’t protestors — they were rioters, insurrectionists, and domestic terrorists. I wish we could say we couldn’t see it coming, but that isn’t true. We could.”
United States Congress, however, certified Mr. Biden as the next president of America on Thursday after he surpassed the 270 electoral college votes. Mr. Biden will be America’s 46th President after inauguration on January 20.
