At least four Nigerian soldiers have been killed in a recent onslaught by notorious terrorist sect Boko Haram, Peoples Gazette learnt from military sources Sunday.

The felled soldiers, who were involved in counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast were ambushed Saturday evening by operatives of the jihadist group along Damaturu-Buni Yadi road in Yobe State, our sources said.

The Gazette could not immediately confirm if there were any soldiers wounded or missing in action. The number of terrorist casualties has yet to be disclosed. An army spokesman could not be immediately reached for comments on the apparent reprisal attack by the insurgents.

The Gazette reported that no fewer than 12 suspected Boko Haram fighters were neutralised in the state on Wednesday by troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE.

Sources told the Gazette that the insurgents, who launched an offensive on the servicemen were successfully repelled by the gallant troops.

Various equipment was captured from the insurgents, an army memo stated.

The Buhari administration said at the weekend that the decade-long war against Boko Haram, which has left thousands dead and millions displaced would be concluded in 2021.

Military authorities had earlier assured that the dreadful sect would be “disgraced” this year.
