UN secretary-general visits Moldova refugee camp

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an end of war, after he visited a centre for refugees from Ukraine during a visit to Moldova.
According to the UN chief, it is impossible to meet refugees and not be deeply moved by their stories.
He said the tragedy demonstrates that war is a senseless thing and that this war must stop.
Mr Guterres also visited the home of a Moldovan family, who have taken in refugees, and thanked them for their generosity.
He expressed his appreciation to the Moldovan President Maia Sandu for the immense generosity and solidarity shown by Moldova’s government and people towards those fleeing the war in Ukraine.
He also praised Moldova for receiving the most Ukrainian refugees as a proportion of its own population.
Moldova, a country of some 2.5 million people, has taken in more than 450,000 Ukrainian refugees since the start of the war.
