PDP chieftain murdered in Akwa Ibom

The police command in Akwa Ibom has confirmed the killing of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Silvester Ntefre murdered in Oruk Anam local government area on May 15.
Police spokesman Odiko Macdon, disclosed this on Tuesday.
“We have received the report and we are working on it,” Mr Macdon stated.
The police officer further explained that police commissioner Andrew Aniengheme had ordered the deputy police commissioner in charge of the area to take over the matter for discrete investigation.
“As I speak, mechanisms are already in place to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. The culprits were chased by the youth of the community and the police but they narrowly escaped,” he added. “I can assure you that with the strategy put in place by the commissioner of police, the perpetrators will soon be brought to book.”
He, however, urged the public to “pray and allow the police to do their job.”
A source revealed that the PDP chieftain was killed at his residence in Ekparakwa, Oruk Anam LGA after gunmen stormed his residence in a black SUV.
He was dragged outside while other members of the gang shot sporadically to scare neighbours, added the source.
The assailants dragged the PDP chieftain into a nearby bush and shot him several times before escaping through the bush.
The gunmen left their vehicle behind.
