POS operator jailed for stealing employer’s N153,000

A Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old point of sale (POS) operator Chukwu Philip to six months imprisonment for stealing his employer’s N153,000.
Mr Philip, who lives in Byazhin, Abuja, pleaded guilty to the three counts of breach of trust, theft and cheating.
The area court judge, Sulyman Ola, gave Mr Philip an option of N20,000 fine and also warned him to be of good behaviour.
Mr Philip had begged the court for leniency.
Prosecution counsel Chinedu Ogada told the court that on May 9 the complainant, Chisom Peter, reported the matter at the Byazhin Police Station.
Mr Ogada said the complainant employed the accused as a POS operator in his shop and gave him a POS machine and N153,000.
He told the court that the accused collected the machine and N153,000 and absconded. The police later nabbed Mr Philip.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation the POS machine was recovered in a lottery shop and the convict made a confessional statement.
