Nigeria women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, have asked the regime of President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse the two-year ban recently imposed on them.

The recent ban from the federal government on basketball activities, means that the National Basketball team has to withdraw from all international competitions it’s involved in.

In a Facebook post opposing the ban, D’Tigress said that they want to represent Nigeria in the upcoming FIBA Women’s World Cup competition scheduled for September.

“Our goal is to play and represent Nigeria proudly! We, as the Nigerian Women’s National Team plea for the reversal of the International Basketball ban for Nigeria. We hope to be heard! Thank you,” the statement from the Women’s nation team read.

D’Tigress are three times Afrobasket Champions, having won the Women’s Afrobasket Championship consecutively for three times in a row. They won in 2017 at Bamako, Mali, 2019 at Dakar, Senegal and in 2021 at Yaounde, Cameroon.
