A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced 27-year-old security guard Barnabas Yakubu to nine months imprisonment for stealing iron rods worth N330,000.

Mr Yakubu of Dawaki Abuja was sentenced on a count charge of theft, to which he, however, pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

The Judge, Sulyman Ola, however, gave Mr Yakubu an option of N30,000 fine and also warned him to be of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Chinedu Ogada told the court that the convict committed the offence on July 13.

Mr Ogada said that the Complainant, Ike Ifeanyi, of Apo Resettlement, Apo, Abuja, reported the matter at Dawaki Police Station on July 13.

He told the court that the convict went into the complainant’s building at Dawaki, which was under construction, without his consent and stole the iron rods.

The prosecutor added that during police investigation, the convict made a confessional statement and efforts to recover the iron rods proved abortive.
