Ten secondary schools in Katsina on Wednesday participated in the maiden Inter-School Academic Quiz Competition organised by the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

The event, held at the officers’ mess of the 17 Brigade in Katsina, formed part of the brigade’s efforts to promote education, discipline, and healthy academic competition among students.

Students drawn from various secondary schools converged at the venue where they tested their knowledge in Mathematics, English Language, and General Knowledge.

Speaking at the event, the brigade commander, Ishaya Ibrahim, said the initiative was designed to encourage academic excellence among young people while also strengthening civil-military relations within the host community.

The commander said the army remained committed to supporting programmes that promote education and youth development.

He noted that education remained a critical tool for national development, stressing that the competition was aimed at stimulating intellectual growth and inspiring students to strive for academic excellence.

Mr Ibrahim commended the participating schools and their teachers for their enthusiasm and dedication, adding that such engagements help foster stronger ties between the military and the civilian population.

According to him, the army will continue to initiate programmes that positively impact communities within its area of responsibility.

At the end of the competition, the NAOWA Secondary School, Natsinta Cantonment, emerged the overall winner, Gobarau College second, while Little Angels came third.

The brigade commander expressed optimism that the quiz competition would become an annual event aimed at encouraging academic excellence among students across the state.

Other schools that participated included Government Day Secondary School Natsinta, Government College Katsina, Baiwa Alheri Academy, GDSS Kofar Yandaka, Katsina College Katsina, St. Martins Academy, and Erodite Comprehensive College.
