Mr Akeredolu was, until his death, the chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum.
Mr Akeredolu died of prostate cancer at a German hospital.Â
He also declared that all the flags in the state should be flown at half-mast.
Mr Aragbaiye, the Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties in the cabinet, resigned shortly after the death of Mr Akeredolu.
“We are sad by the development, but in line with the constitution, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has to take over in full capacity as the governor of the state.”
“He succumbed to complications arising from protracted prostate cancer.”
A presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed Mr Akeredolu’s death, said the governor died in Germany, where he was hospitalised.
“I was told that doctors battled to save his life including his physician.’’
She alleged that Mr Aiyedatiwa was only sourcing for ‘cheap popularity’ by removing the portion of the barricade on the road.
“Personal sacrifice and resilience can conquer development in any society.”
