Mr Nkwocha said Mr Shettima arrived in the state to support the party’s candidate and attend other official engagements.
He noted that bandits shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her.
Mr Kwankwaso served as commissioner for Youth and Sports under Governor Abba Yusuf before resigning his appointment to join the NDC.
She said preliminary investigations showed the suspects were part of a criminal network involved in kidnapping and banditry within the FCT and neighbouring states.
He said Messrs Abubakar and Amaechi represent a truly national team that bridges regions, generations and political traditions.
The military said the raid was an offensive code-named Operation Clean Sweep III.
“When I hear about democracy, it annoys me because whatever they say is not what will make us happy,” said Mr Yahaya.
According to the statement, the suspects are currently undergoing further investigation.
He said the victims were rescued unharmed.
“Every operational resource was deployed in the hope of securing his safe return. This sad loss further strengthens the resolve of the AFN,” he said.
