The South African Football Association, at the national elective congress held at Vodacom World in Midrand on Saturday, re-elected Danny Jordaan as president for a fourth term.

The 75-year-old, who has been SAFA president since 2013, amassed 175 votes to defeat AmaZulu FC owner and chairperson, Sandile Zungu, who polled 82 votes, earning the right to remain at the helm until the next elections in 2031.

SAFA members will also elect leaders of the national executive committee and provincial structures at the congress.

Mr Jordaan’s landslide victory came amid reports of alleged death threats, harassment and intimidation of delegates before the voting began.

The regional voting bloc was reduced from 52 to 48 after four regions, Amajuba, Harry Gwala, Sarah Baartman and Pixley ka Seme, two of which are from KwaZulu-Natal and the other two from Northern Cape, all backing Mr Zungu, were disqualified from attending and taking part in the poll for failing to hold their required internal elections before the congress.

Each region was allocated four votes, with the presidential poll decided through a secret ballot, while the voting panel included representatives from the SAFA regions, associate member associations and the Premier Soccer League as a special member.

Representatives from FIFA, CAF, COSAFA and SASCOC were also at the congress, while the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, attended the gathering.
