Nigerian artiste, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken legal action to secure joint custody of his first daughter, Imade, with his baby Mama, Sophia Momodu.

In a motion filed on April 17, 2024, at the Lagos State High Court, Davido, represented by his legal team including Dr. Olaniyi Arije and Okey Barrah, requested the court to grant him joint custody of Imade.

The PUNCH reported that the singer alternatively sought “unfettered and unrestricted access” to his daughter.

In the suit marked LD/1587PMC/2024, Davido detailed their past relationship which resulted in the birth of Imade on May 14, 2015.

Though their romantic relationship ended years ago, both parties agreed to co-parent.

He emphasised his commitment to Imade’s well-being, stating, “I have been responsible for all her educational expenses, ensuring she receives the best education.”

The singer also highlighted his financial support, which includes paying for Momodu’s rent and purchasing a N200 million apartment in a secure gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Despite his efforts, Davidon claimed that Momodu rejected the offer and instead demanded an annual payment of N5 million for a rented apartment.

Davido further noted that he provided a Range Rover SUV and subsequently, a Highlander SUV, to ensure reliable transportation for Imade. Additionally, he covered repair costs and provided a nanny’s salary, medical expenses, insurance, and travel expenses.

However, Davido alleged that Momodu’s demands had become excessive, citing her request for an annual lump sum payment of $19,600 for the nanny’s salary.

He expressed frustration, stating, “Despite my contributions, the respondent continues to make unreasonable demands and has shown me unwarranted cruelty.”

This comes months after Sophia accused Davido of cyberbullying, harassment and threat to her life in January, 2024.
