Demographic Survey: NPC says 22 of 25 LGAs in Oyo covered
The National Population Commission says it has concluded the 2023/2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) in 22 of 25 LGAs in Oyo.
The coordinator of the South-West 2023-2024 NDHS, Rotimi Ilelaboye, disclosed this in an interview in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Mr Ilelaboye said the exercise would be completed in the remaining three LGAs by the end of April.
The NPC official said, “We’re approaching completion; 40 clusters have been completed, while the remaining three clusters will be completed. We call an enumeration area a cluster. This is when a locality is divided into sizeable areas for easy and convenient counting or interviewing by enumerators or interviewers within the time allocated.
“Each of these divisions is called an Enumeration Area or Cluster. Out of 25 LGAs selected for the NDHS in Oyo State, 22 LGAs have been completed.”
Mr Ilelaboye added, “We’ve successfully concluded Ibadan North, Ibadan South-West, Ibadan South-East, Egbeda, Lagelu, Ibadan North-East, Ona Ara, Ido, Akinyele, Oluyole, Iseyin, Oyo East, Atiba and Ibarapa North.
“Others are Ibarapa East, Ibarapa Central, Ogbomoso North, Surulere, Orire, Irepo, Saki East and Saki West.”
He mentioned Ogbomoso South, Atisbo and Kajola as the remaining three LGAs to be completed.
“The team is, however, currently working in Ogbomoso South,” he said.
Mr Ilelaboye stated that a team required 11 persons for a successful implementation.
“These are the Team Lead, CAPI supervisor, three female interviewers, two male interviewers, two biomarkers and two drivers,” he said.
While commending the public for the response the commission had so far enjoyed, describing it as satisfactory, he called for more cooperation between residents and the interviewers.
NDHS, which provides information on the basic demographic and health indicators of Nigerians, comes up every five years, with the last being held in 2018.
The survey started in January aiming to provide invaluable insights leading to evidence-based policies, public health interventions and a broader development agenda for the country.
