Desmond Elliot, member representing Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos House of Assembly, has apologised to President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his actions in the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in the state.

In a viral social media video, Mr Elliot was seen on his knees as he begged Mr Gbajabiamila for forgiveness and sought reintegration into the ruling APC in Lagos State.

“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future,” he said.

Mr Gbajabiamila later asked the lawmaker to get up.

The development came months after Mr Elliot first apologised to Mr Gbajabiamila, noting that he grew into politics under the tutelage of the chief of staff, who he said taught him all he knows as a politician.

“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him.

“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way. To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” the lawmaker stated.

His apology followed Mr Gbajabiamila’s disclosure that he nearly lost his job as Mr Tinubu’s chief of staff over Mr Elliot’s role in the 2025 impeachment of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Mr Elliot lost the APC re-election ticket for his constituency to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, an aspirant backed by Mr Gbajabiamila, in May.
