The government of Ebonyi says  it has approved the establishment of two new universities in addition to the state-owned university.

Sunday Nwangene, commissioner for education, said this while briefing journalists after the state executive council meeting on Tuesday in Abakaliki.

Mr Nwangene gave the universities as Aeronautics University and University of ICT and Science/Technology.

He said the essence of the new institutions was to expand development in both education and socio- economic activities of the people.

“The two schools have been approved today, Tuesday, by the state government and they are to be located at Ezza-South and Izzi Local Governments respectively.

“These are special universities that have the possibility of attracting investors and boost the state education and the economy.

“They will be driven by public/private ownership and the schools will help in building the manpower of our young people in Science and Technology,” he said.

Uchenna Orji, commissioner for information and orientation, who also spoke with journalists, said the state government was committed to infrastructure and manpower development.

He noted that the government had approved the recruitment of 5000 graduates into the civil service, adding that the exercise would help in capacity building and strengthen the state workforce.

“We have also approved the recruitment of those that will be training the personnel for the state airport operation. The application is open and expects BSc level and equivalent for the job.

“The executive has deliberated and reactivated the recruitment of 5000 people  and that the exercise will be concluded in January 2022,” the commissioner said.
