Ekiti LG distributes improved cocoa seedlings to farmers

The chairman of Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Bayo Omojola, on Saturday distributed improved cocoa seedlings to over 70 farmers in the council.
The event was held at the local government secretariat in Ikole-Ekiti.
Mr Omojola said the decision was to boost earnings and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
He said the improved seedlings would replace ageing cocoa trees, increase productivity and provide farmers with high-yield planting materials capable of enhancing both production and income.
He assured beneficiaries that more farmers in the local government would receive cocoa seedlings.
“I am passionate about agricultural development, and it is equally one of the six-point agenda of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
“We are giving free cocoa seedlings to farmers to improve and boost agricultural production.
“I urge the beneficiaries of the cocoa seedlings not to sell them but make good use of them on their farms. I also encourage youths to engage in agriculture,” he said.
Two of the beneficiaries, Kayode Awolusi and Boboye Olaleye, thanked the chairman for the gesture.
They promised to utilise the cocoa seedlings to create wealth and promote agriculture in their respective communities.
