INEC removes Pantami, Adebutu from guber list, keeps mum on Rivers

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed the names of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopefuls Isa Pantami and Ladi Adebutu from its final list of governorship candidates.
In a list of candidates released by INEC on its website, described as final, the names of Messrs Pantami and Adebutu, the PDP’s candidates for the 2027 governorship elections in Gombe and Ogun states, respectively, were missing.
The electoral umpire cited a Supreme Court judgement surrounding party membership.
The apex court delivered a judgement on September 24 on compliance with the statutory requirements governing the submission and use of political parties’ membership registers for party primaries, congresses and conventions, which INEC is now citing.
Despite omitting the names of the PDP candidates, INEC is yet to release the final list of candidates for the Rivers State governorship election amid controversy surrounding the candidacy of the All Progressives Congress flagbearer, Kingsley Chinda.
There have been debates over the validity of his nomination after he defected from the PDP to the APC to participate in the party’s primary election.
