Veteran journalist, Tony Momoh is dead

Mr. Momoh served as Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture under the military leadership of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Nigerian Journalist and former Minister of information and culture, Prince Tony Momoh is dead.  

At the time of filing this report, the cause of death is uncertain. 
Mr. Momoh,  served as Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture under the military leadership of General Ibrahim Babangida.

His journalism career started off with him as a sub-editor at the Daily Times in 1962, and progressed to being the editor and deputy general manager between 1976 – 1980.

Mr. Momoh was active on the legal and political scene as well, being the party in the landmark case in 1981, where he was summoned by the Senate for contempt. The ruling in this case constitutionally protects and allows journalists to hold the Government accountable till this day. 

In 1982, the case of Tony Momoh v. Speaker, House of Representatives established  a person’s right to refuse to disclose their source of information. 

Mr. Momoh was also the chairman of the board of directors of Nigerian Airways between 1991-1993. In 1991, He was a Member of the Edo State Economic Advisory Committee and a member of the Nigerian Press Council in December 1992.

Mr. Momoh served as the Chairman of  Political Committee of the Muhammadu Buhari Organisation, and appointed as the chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) party ahead of the April 2011 national elections.
