Kaduna SSG counsels governing board members to operate within law

The secretary to Kaduna state government, AbdulKadir Mu’azu, Meyere has advised members of governing boards and councils, to acquaint themselves thoroughly with the laws establishing their institutions and operate strictly within them.
Mr Meyere pointed out that a board or council provides policy direction and oversight, while day-to-day administration remains the responsibility of the management.
Mr Meyere, who gave this advice at the inauguration of governing boards and councils of Kaduna state agencies and institutions, told them that ‘’respect for that distinction is the surest guarantee of a harmonious tenure‘’.
‘’Hold your statutory meetings regularly, keep proper records, declare any interest that may conflict with that of your institution, and be guided at all times by due process,’’ he advised.
Mr Meyere observed that their appointments is an expression of the confidence that Mr Sani reposes on them, adding that ‘’public office is a call to service and we should therefore receive it in that spirit’’.
‘’You were carefully selected for your integrity, competence and experience, and drawn from across the three senatorial districts of our state, so that the institutions you now oversee may benefit from the widest pool of knowledge and the fairest representation of our people,’’ he said.
Mr Meyere advised the chairmen and board members to deliver measurable results, by establishing ‘’amicable working relationship with your management’’.
‘’Set for yourselves clear targets and deliverables that build directly on the achievements of His Excellency in your sector, monitor them closely, and report on them regularly,’’ he added.
The secretary to Kaduna state government further charged them to put the citizens first and work together as a team that is serving one government.
‘’Let fairness, equity and the needs of our communities guide your decisions. Those of you who oversee enforcement agencies must ensure that they act firmly, but with courtesy and full respect for the rights of citizens.
‘’No agency succeeds alone; our health institutions must plan together, our security and enforcement agencies must share information and act in synergy and collaboration, and our training institutions must align what they teach with the needs of our health system, our farms and our growing economy,’’ he said.
Mr Meyere promised to support them to discharge their responsibilities, advising them ‘’to channel your reports, recommendations and requests through your supervising Ministries and the appropriate structures of government so that they receive prompt attention’’.
He Iinaugurated governing boards and councils of 12 agencies and institutions on behalf of Mr Sani and they include, the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board.
The rest are the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya; Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, the Kaduna State Residents Identity Management Agency and the Kaduna State Drugs and Medical Supplies Management Agency.
In addition, the boards of Kaduna State Vigilance Service; the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency; the Kaduna State Facilities Management Agency and the Kaduna State Agricultural Development Agency were inaugurated.
Also, the Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology, Makarfi; the Kaduna State Water Corporation; and the Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development duly inaugurated.
Mr Meyere also reminded that the governor had been pursuing a transformative urban and rural development agenda anchored on security, human capital development, rural transformation and inclusive governance.
‘’In health, the administration is renovating and upgrading our primary health care centres across the State, to provide basic emergency obstetric and newborn care and other essential services. The Governor Uba Sani administration has distributed free essential medicines and modern equipment to health facilities in all 23 local government areas.
‘’Government has also approved the recruitment of 1,800 health personnel, and the process of recruiting more health workers is ongoing to ensure adequate manpower for our health facilities,’’ he stated.
According to Mr Meyere, the governor’s administration is focused on skills-based learning, adding that ‘’the Institutes of Vocational Training and Skills Development at Soba, Rigachukun and Samarun-Kataf are equipping our youth with practical and employable skills.’’
‘’Our farmers have, for three consecutive years, received free fertiliser and other farm inputs, while road projects across the State especially in rural areas are linking farming communities to markets and reducing post-harvest losses,’’ he added.
