Kano assembly begins review of state police bill

The Kano State House of Assembly said it had formally received the State Police Bill and commenced its legislative review without delay.
This is contained in a statement issued by the chief press secretary to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Sani-Shawai, on Friday.
Mr Shawai said copies of the Bill had been circulated to all members for in-depth study, analysis and possible input for improvement where necessary.
He said the Bill was scheduled for second reading on October 12, after individual review by the members.
According to him, the State Police Bill was read on the floor of the House during a recent plenary session, during which members were given the opportunity to begin proper legislative consideration of the Bill in accordance with due process.
“It is anticipated that after members have completed their individual review, the Bill will be scheduled for second reading on 12th October, 2026, for further deliberation and approval by the entire House.”
Speaking on the development, Mr Isma’il-Falgore, reiterated that Kano State was fully committed and prepared to confront security challenges head-on.
He stressed that while Kano remained relatively peaceful compared to many other states in the country, proactive legislation was crucial to sustaining and strengthening the state’s security architecture.
