The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has issued a 48-hour directive to retired civil servants in the state to vacate office.

The directive is contained in a statement by the acting Chairman of the commission, Hafsat Ada’u-Kutama, on Wednesday in Kano.

Ms Ada’u-Kutama said the directive was to enforce the earlier circular issued by the Office of the Head of Civil Service in the state.

She further said the commission had established a confidential whistleblower channel for civil servants to report any retired officer still in office via phone number.

“The commission views the continued stay in service, collection of salaries and use of government property after statutory retirement as a flagrant violation of the Kano State Civil Service Rules and an act of economic sabotage against the State.

“Consequently, the commission hereby directs all the retired civil servants to comply with the Head of Civil Service directive within 48 hours.

“Also directs all permanent secretaries and directors of administration to submit to the commission before Friday, October 10, a list of officers who have retired by age or years of service but are still occupying offices,” she said.

The anti-graft agency boss warned that any officer found in the receipt or aided to receive a salary after retirement would be investigated accordingly.
