The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State says it is open to an alliance with other political parties to end the All Progressives Congress (APC )’s reign in the state.

Hakeem Olalemi, Director-General of the state PDP Governorship Campaign Council, disclosed this in an interview on Sunday in Lagos.

Mr Olalemi said the PDP was reaching out to political parties and interests that shared its objective of defeating the APC in the 2027 governorship election.

“We are working around the clock to reach out to all the parties in Lagos.

“However, PDP remains a legacy political party; we won’t mind those who would want to join us in this mission of rescuing the state.

“We don’t mind collaborating with parties whose interest or purpose is to defeat the APC and end its reign in Lagos. We are working, and we are serious,” he said.

He described the APC as the PDP’s only major opponent in the forthcoming election, adding that the party was prepared to work with like-minded political forces.

“We have only one opponent, APC. If their purpose is to retrieve power from APC, they are welcome to our camp.

“We are PDP, and we are ready. They can form an alliance with us and collaborate with us,” Mr Olalemi said.

He expressed confidence in the PDP’s governorship candidate, Adedeji Doherty, describing him as an experienced candidate, prepared to lead Lagos.

“We have a well-experienced and well-grounded person who is ready morally, mentally and spiritually to wrest power from APC.

“That person is  Adedeji Doherty. He is highly ready. He has been in the business for a very long time, and he knows what he is doing,” he said.

Mr Olalemi said Mr Doherty’s continued political participation over the years demonstrated his consistency and determination to govern the state.

“That is why my principal has continued to pursue his ambition consistently since 2007. He has been very consistent over the years.

“Out of all the people who have contested, I don’t see anyone who is as experienced as he is,” he said.

The campaign council DG said the PDP was already fully prepared for the 2027 contest, noting that the party had appointed its spokesperson.

“We are ready for this race. We are ready, more than ready. Those other parties should just go and roll up their sleeves,” he said.

Mr Olalemi said the party’s priority would be to improve residents’ quality of life through programmes covering healthcare, education, the environment, and other critical sectors.

“We are prepared to make life easy for every Lagosian.

“Anybody who resides in Lagos is a Lagosian, and we will give everyone a sense of belonging whether you are from Kano, Anambra or any other part of Nigeria,” he said.

“If you look at our manifesto, you will be marvelled,” he said.

The 2027 Lagos governorship election is expected to feature intense competition among the major political parties as they seek to secure control of Nigeria’s economic capital.
