Man, 47, in court over alleged N6.2 million fraud

A 47-year-old man, Tunji Bello, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged N6, 250,000 fraud.
The defendant, of an undisclosed address, was arraigned on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Cpl Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendant, between November 2022 and March 2023, obtained N6,250,000 from one Dr Williams Akinlade at Eleyele area of Ibadan.
Mr Akinloye said that the defendant collected the money from Mr Akinlade under the pretence of fabricating a magnetic 25KVA fuel-less generating set for him, knowingly same to be false.
He stated that the defendant fraudulently converted the money to his own use.
Mr Akinloye said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to N2 million bail, with two sureties in like sum.
Mrs Ogunkanmi said that the first surety must be a landed property owner, with survey and agreement within the court’s jurisdiction, while the second must be a blood relation to the defendant.
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter till July 30 for hearing.
