The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kaduna State command, says it arrested 140 suspected drug traffickers and seized 816.506 kg of assorted illicit drugs in August.

The NDLEA Commander, Maijama’a Muhammad, disclosed this in a statement issued by the command’s press officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sani Garba, on Monday in Kaduna.

Mr Muhammad said the command also dismantled 107 drug joints and recovered 241 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, as well as one locally made pistol during various operations conducted within the month.

According to him, the achievements underscore the command’s commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking, substance abuse and related criminal activities in the state.

He said that a breakdown of the seized drugs showed that cannabis sativa accounted for the largest quantity with 791.469 kg.

Mr Muhammad added that other substances recovered included 2.5 kg of cocaine, 20,129 kg of tramadol, 0.158 kg of methamphetamine and 4,748 kg of other psychotropic substances.

He said that additional substances intercepted during the operations included codeine, diazepam, rohypnol and pentazocine.

The commander said the recoveries reflected intensified efforts by the command to disrupt drug supply networks and curb substance abuse in Kaduna State.

“The dismantling of 107 drug joints in different parts of the state during the period under review indicated the command’s strengthening of its offensive against drug distribution channels,” Mr Muhammad said.

On drug demand reduction activities, the commander said eight persons completed counselling, treatment and rehabilitation programmes.

He added that 35 others received brief intervention services, while 754 suspected users underwent drug integrity tests during the month.

According to him, the figures demonstrate the agency’s balanced approach of combining enforcement with counselling, treatment and reintegration initiatives.

Mr Muhammad commended officers and men of the command for their dedication, resilience, and professionalism in discharging their duties.

He urged personnel to remain vigilant, proactive and intelligence-driven in addressing emerging challenges associated with drug-related crimes.

The commander reaffirmed the command’s resolve to rid Kaduna State of illicit drugs and related criminal activities through sustained collaboration with other security agencies.

He said the agency would continue to work to ensure peace, safety, and security for residents of the state.
