The Niger Ministry of Rural and Community Development has embarked on a total of 321 projects across various sectors of the economy to improve rural communities.

Yakubu Bello, the permanent secretary of the ministry, disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Minna.

He said the projects were under the Ward Development Projects Initiative (WDPI) of the present administration, aimed at bringing development to the people at the grassroots.

Mr Bello explained that the projects, in various sectors including agriculture, education, power, water resources, health, security, and the environment, among others, have reached 85 per cent completion.

He said many of the projects were community-driven and were spread across the 274 wards in the state.

The permanent secretary said the ministry would ensure that the initiative was sustained.

He said that a monitoring, tracking, and impact assessment mechanism had been created to strengthen sustainability.

He also noted the need for partnerships with the private sector to expand funding for the initiative and achieve greater impact.
